Frequently Asked Questions

How do you decide where the money goes?

All of the money is given at the discretion of the board. Our Charter outlines to whom we can and cannot give money to. Because we have a limited budget, our ability to approve requests for support is also limited to the most dire circumstances. We define "dire" as an imminent impact to an employee's health, shelter, or essential needs. For example, if an employee can't pay their mortgage and the house would fall into foreclosure, that would potentially be dire. However, when the mortgage company offers a payment plan to keep the employee in the home, that would not be considered dire. When the MOK Board evaluates requests, we take the time to thoroughly understand the overall situation and ascertain the support we can provide. We may need to request images of bank account balances, etc. as proof of the need.

Can I write off the money I donate?

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, where funds donated are tax-deductible. We became eligible for this status on July 29, 2014. Our EIN number is 30-0799073

What if I have an idea for a fundraiser?

Let us know. If we’re limited to the ideas of the board, then we aren’t doing what we sought out to do.

How do I apply for help?

If you need help, or know of a colleague who could use help, please let us know. We can’t guarantee that we will be able to provide support in every situation, but we will certainly do whatever we can to help those in unique and dire circumstances.

How much of the money actually goes to help?

100% of all donations go back to helping the employees. Our Board members completely support our operating costs (bank fees, website hosting, etc.) through their own donations. They don't take a penny out of the fund for any reason. We try to run as lean as possible so we can do the most good with the limited resources we have.
